International exchanges on hydrogen trains at the Green Energy Centre Europe

On June 25, the consortium partners of the Austrian research competition flagship project “WIVA P&G HyTrain” met at the Green Energy Center Europe in Innsbruck with international players from research institutions and railroad industry to exchange knowledge and experience on the latest development status of hydrogen trains. The event was organized in a hybrid form with relevant talks given by invited speakers and was broadcast as livestream on YouTube. The organized talks covered a large number of topics, ranging from the theoretical implementation of fuel cell technology in rolling stock up to real life examples of ongoing train tests in current projects. With the decarbonization of rolling stock being a necessity today, low-carbon hydrogen next to battery powered trains offers an enticing prospect as the fuel for future low-emission traction. However, as the technology is not yet available on a large scale, it is more important than ever to have a direct discussion between all the different actors that are involved. With more than 50 participants attending either in person or online, the event was a full success and allowed to give a broad impression of the current state of hydrogen technology for trains and the current state of its implementation in europe. We hope to see you next time at the Green Energy Center Europe where we build a bridge into a sustainable green future.
